Behavior Classes

 

 

Train your pet to be the best friend it can be... take advantage of the SPCA's pet behavior classes. Classes are held indoors and emphasize positive reinforcement training. Class fees range from $10 to $65. SPCA adopters are eligible for a free two hour class; dog adopters get a discount on the 6-week obedience class.  Every pet owner can call the FREE Pet Behavior Helpline program. Select the class you are interested in and register online.

Canine Basics for Busy People - 2 Hour Workshop

This 2-hour workshop is packed with practical tips for stress-free living with your canine. Sharpen your communication and basic handling skills. Includes house training, chew toy training, jumping, barking, pulling, and more! Proof of rabies vaccination required.

6-Week Canine Basic Obedience

Canine owners learn how to better understand their pets in this six week course. Each one-hour class covers basic obedience commands and unwanted behaviors such as jumping, pulling and chewing. Proof of rabies vaccination required.

Cat Talk & Cat Care

Do you speak cat?  This 2-hour feline appreciation class explores the cat psyche. Learn how can you predict a cat's purrsonality. Explore that insatiable urge to claw furniture. More!
Cat Talk (1 hour): The second class hour focuses on the mysterious world that cats live in. Reoccuring behavior issues are addressed. This is a great opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of cats. Helpful tips for new and seasoned cat owners.
Cat Care (1 hour): Cat Care is essential to keeping our four-legged friends healthy. Dr. Cherie Buisson, SPCA Veterinarian will enlighten us about feline nutrition. What your cat eats affects their overall health and behavior. Cat owners will learn how to keep their felines frisky for years to come.

Just for Puppies Care Class

Puppies during their first year of life go through many changes, including a rowdy and rebellious stage between 6-9 months that can frustrate the best of any pet parent.  To bring the cheer back to puppy pet owner homes, SPCA Tampa Bay is offering Puppy Workshops to help with unruly canine companions on:

Canine Good Citizen 

This 10-step test is open to all breeds but was especially designed for Pit and Pit/Mix dogs. The intent is to reward dogs that exhibit good manners at home and in our community. All dogs who pass are eligible to receive a Canine Good Citizen certificate from the American Kennel Club. The SPCA offers this test in conjunction with the Animal Farm Foundation, a New York-based organization that aims to change the perception of Pit Bulls across the U.S. For every certified Pit Bull or Pit Bull mix that passes the test, AFF makes a $150 donation to the SPCA’s homeless pets. Dogs must be current on rabies vaccinations.

Canine Delinquents

This class is geared for all dogs 6 months to 2 years, and all the behaviors your dog just didn’t out grow.
$15.00 per dog and all family members are welcome.

All About The Leash

This is a 1-hour class that will help dogs and their owners learn how to walk with manners.

Kids 'n K9s

Announcing a new dog training class for kids, ages 10 to 14! Kids and canines love to play. But, what are the rules to keep playtime safe? One tip: teach children to adjust their style of play to the dog's personality. Shy canines need gentle play to build confidence. This 5-week class teaches more on safety tips, fun games to play, basic obedience, safety and overall responsibility of owning a dog. IMPORTANT: When you register please download the forms in your confirmation email. Sign and bring the forms with you (including the liability waiver) on the first day of class.

Class is held in the summer.
